How do I create an mp3 file that students can download and listen to?
Audio recordings can be done "live" or in your office .
Live recording of lectures can be done using an mp3 recorder such as the one picture below:
mp3 recorders usually have a built in microphone. These may be stereo or directional depending on the specifications of the device.
If recording in a lecture theatre, a useful tip is to purchase a small headset microphone that plugs in directly to the mp3 recorder.
The mp3 recorder can then be placed in a pocket or on lanyard around neck...
Simply hit record button and begin... A tip- if student asks a question, repeat the question for the recording so listeners later on know what student asked...
At the end of the session, hit stop record. Many mp3 recorders have USB connections, so it is simply a matter of placing recorder in USB port and downloading file.
Office recordings...
This can be done using software such as Audacity (PC or Mac) or Garage Band (Mac) or other tools readily available ...
What if I want to edit the content?
Simply load the mp3 file into an audio editor such as Audacity (available for Mac or PC) or if you have a Mac- use Garage Band to edit.
mp3 files can then be uploaded to a system such as Blackboard for students to download. Other options are to make them available through iTunes although this makes them available to the world!!
